For hitchhiking westward on the Trans Canada, it's as good as it gets in Thunder Bay... Not brilliant, but the only place on the way out of town where you get enough shoulders for cars to conviniently pull over. It's only a 10 meters strech, so pay attention: it is after the traffic light, right in front of the Canadian Tire. As a bonus, the Canadian Tire gardening shed is out in the open, they just clear it before it closes on 22:00, then you can stay there for the night... Especially handy for the rainy weather of Thunder Bay - they don't call it Thunder Bay for nothing!―Anonymous

There is barely any shoulder there now plus a no pedestrian and no stopping/parking sign. If you want to hitch east go west to the next intersection.―Pseudodoc

Although this is the main highway going west, it's a poor spot to wait. Go to Arthur Street or Dawson Road.―Anonymous

Probably the best spot for hitchhiking out of Thunder Bay. Traffic is slow cause of the lights with a gravel shoulder to pull over. You also get traffic from the 102 going east. One thing that needs to be noted is that there is a no pedestrian sign there. If you don't wish any anger with the cops I'd probably stand in front of it. Got a ride within 7 minutes taking me all the way to Marathon.―Anonymous

There's a gas station and enough space to pull over. Loads of traffic but it took me more than 4 hours to get a ride out of Thunder Bay. Mostly locals, I wouldn't hitch there again, try to find a better spot―Anonymous

Not a great spot, but there isn't much better anywhere else. Ask people at the gas station, but there is still a lot of local traffic. To get to Winnipeg, get there early as it is a long drive―DSLR

It's a great spot for cars to stop. Was just standing opposite of the police station and even though it took me a few hours, I got a lift all the way to Thunder Bay. There's also a decent spot to pitch a tent behind Tom Hortons―Anonymous
